Contempt of court. In the UK and the US, contempt of court is divided into two types: one is when a person disrupts a hearing by making a disturbance in or around the courtroom, or when a person commits an insult to the court or a judge, and the other is when a person is detained or fined a certain amount for each day that he or she does not comply with a court injunction, as a means of indirect coercion to enforce a court order. The former is called "criminal contempt" and the latter is called "civil contempt." Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
