Shipbuilding and Heavy Machinery Workers' Union - Shipbuilding and Heavy Machinery Workers' Union
Its official name is the National Federation of Shipbuilding Heavy Machinery Workers' Unions. It was formed in February 1972 and is an affiliate of RENGO. After World War II, labor unions in the shipbuilding industry coexisted with Zenkoku Kinzoku's Shipbuilding Department (formed in 1946, renamed Zenzosen Soren (National Confederation of Shipbuilding Machinery Workers' Unions) in 1964, and joined the Domei) and Zenzosen (All Japan Shipbuilding Workers' Union, formed in 1946, renamed All Japan Shipbuilding Machinery (All Japan Shipbuilding Machinery Workers' Union) in 1964). In response to the revision of the Japan-US Security Treaty, Zenzosen announced a policy of staging a general strike against the Security Treaty at its Central Committee meeting in August 1959.
