Kongo Yasha Myo-o

One of the Five Great Kings. The deity of the north. In Sanskrit, it is called Vajrayaksha, and is also transliterated as Vajrayaksha. Its secret name is Chobuku Vajra. It is a three-faced, six-armed statue with five eyes in the center and a bow, arrow, sword, ring seal, five-pronged vajra, and a vajra bell in its hands. There is a theory that it is the same as Ususama Vajra. The second volume of the Yoga Sutra describes a Vajrayaksha mandala with this deity at its center, but it was not produced very often in Japan.

五大明王の一尊。北方の尊。サンスクリット語でバジラヤクシャVajra-yakaといい、金剛薬叉とも音写する。密号を調伏(ちょうぶく)金剛という。三面六臂(ろっぴ)像で、中心面は五眼、手に弓、箭(や)、剣(つるぎ)、輪印、五鈷杵(ごこしょ)、金剛鈴を持つ。烏枢沙摩(うすさま)明王と同体とする説がある。『瑜祇経(ゆぎきょう)』下巻にこの尊を中心とする金剛夜叉曼荼羅(まんだら)図を説くが、日本ではあまり制作されなかった。
