〘Noun〙 (A noun derived from the conjunctive form of the verb "hafuru (to release)". Later also called "hauri" or "houri") A position belonging to a shrine that serves the gods. Also, the person who does this. Often confused with the kannushi (priest) and negi (assistant priest) , and used as a general term for the three, but when distinguishing between them, it usually refers to a position that receives the command of the kannushi and carries out religious rites more directly than the negi. In that case, they are lower in rank than the kannushi, but the hierarchical relationship between them and the negi is not fixed. Hafuriko. Hafurishi. Hafurito. Hafuribe. 〘名〙① 神をまつって願いごとをすること。また、神をまつることをつかさどる人。かんぬし。はふり。② めでたいよろこび事を祝うこと。多く名詞の上に付けて、その名詞の示す事柄を祝う意に用いる。※星座(1922)〈有島武郎〉「日章旗を交叉した間に勘亭流で『祝開店、佐渡屋さん』と書いたびらを」
