An ancient Indian weapon. In Sanskrit it is called vajra. It is shaped like a pestle with a handle in the middle and blades on both ends. It is named Kongo because it is strong and can smash anything. In esoteric Buddhism it is used as a symbol of Buddha wisdom or bodhi mind (a mind that seeks to become Buddha) that can destroy all worldly desires, and is considered to be a possession of various deities (such as Taishakuten and Shukongoshin) or a ritual implement during rituals. Today, many are made of gilt bronze and are about 15 to 20 centimeters long. A vajra with a single prong at both ends is called a toko (single-pronged vajra), a vajra with three prongs at the end is called a sanko (three-pronged vajra), and a vajra with five prongs at the end is called a goko (five-pronged vajra), and they are interpreted as representing the one true nature, the three mysteries, the five wisdoms and five Buddhas, or the ten paramitas. There are many other types, such as the two-pronged, four-pronged, nine-pronged, pagoda-style, karma-style, and treasure-style, but the above three types are the most commonly used.
