A machine that processes metal or precious metal sheets into sheet material by sandwiching them between a roll and a flat plate, or between two rolls, and passing them through the rotation of the rolls to flatten and roll them. Rolling mills for processing steel appeared by the 18th century. The use of roll machines for rolling soft metals such as gold, silver, and lead dates back even further to Leonardo da Vinci. Many of today's rolling mills are mass-produced continuous production machines such as strip mills, and large blooming mills, in which the process from raw material to finished product is automatically controlled. Depending on the number of rolls, rolling mills are divided into 2-4 stage types with 2-4 rolls, and multi-stage types with more than 4 rolls, and there are also planetary types in which many small diameter rolls are arranged around a large diameter roll. → Related items Direct rolling Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
