Kongoshoji Temple

Japanese: 金剛証寺 - こんごうしょうじ

A Rinzai sect Nanzenji temple located on the summit of Mt. Asama in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. The principal image is Kokuzo Bosatsu. It is said that the temple was founded by Kyotai (Akadai) Dojin during the reign of Emperor Kinmei, and restored by Kukai as an esoteric Buddhism training center. As the temple protecting Ise Shrine, it was revered by the Imperial Court and the shogunate, and was converted from Shingon Buddhism by Priest Tougaku. The main hall was rebuilt in 1609 and retains the style of the Momoyama period. It is an Important Cultural Property, along with the standing statue of Uho Doji from the Fujiwara period.

三重県伊勢市朝熊(あさま)山頂にある臨済宗南禅寺派の寺。本尊虚空蔵菩薩。欽明天皇のころ教待(きょうたい)（暁台）道人が開創，空海が密教道場として中興したと伝える。伊勢神宮鎮護の寺として，宮中，幕府の尊崇をうけ，東岳和尚によって，真言宗から改宗。本堂は1609年再建のもので，桃山時代の様式を伝える。藤原期の雨宝童子立像などとともに重要文化財。
