Diamond dust is a small crystal of garnet. It is also called emery. It is used to cut and polish jade stones. The first mention of diamond dust was in the entry for September 13, 743 (Tenpyo 15) in the Shoku Nihongi, which states that the official slave Hita controlled jade stones using sand from Osaka (Osaka), northeast of Mount Nijo in Yamato. During the Heian period, this area became Diamond Duty Ozono and was under the control of the Kurodosho (Nishinomiyaki). The fields of Ozono were also called Kongo-sho, and are known to have been the property of Kofuku-ji Temple in 1272 (Bun'ei 9) (Kasugasha Shrine Records), and in 1399 (Oei 6), rice for the construction of Kofuku-ji Temple was levied on a field of 22 cho, 1 tan, and 30 bu.
