Gon

Japanese: ゴン

A manga by Masashi Tanaka. It is a dialogue-free story about a small dinosaur named Gon living a strong life in the great outdoors. It was serialized in Morning from 1991 to 2002 and in Afternoon from the May 2012 issue. It won the Excellence Award in the Manga category at the 2nd Japan Media Arts Festival organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs (1998) and the Eisner Award for Best Humorous Publication in 1998. An anime version was broadcast on TV Tokyo in 2012.

Gon

This dog lived in Kudoyama-cho, Ito-gun, Wakayama Prefecture. From 1988 to 1995, he led worshippers along the 20km approach (Choishimichi) from Jison-in Temple, a temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, to Kongobu-ji Temple at Koyasan, and became known as the "Koyasan Guide Dog." He died in 2002. A bronze statue of the dog has been erected at Jison-in Temple.

Gon

This dog served as mayor of the virtual city "Kowan City," created online by the Tourism and Products Association of Konan City, Shiga Prefecture. He took office in November 2011.
