This is a collection of ancient documents compiled by the Japanese scholar Irokawa Sanchu (1802-55) of Tsuchiura, Hitachi Province, who transcribed documents owned by Katori Shrine and its shrine families and compiled them by family (in roughly chronological order) as material for his research on rice paddy systems. It has 62 volumes. It took six years to complete in 1848 (Kaei 1), and contains a total of over 1,500 documents dating back to the mid-Edo period. The scope and thoroughness of the collection makes it unparalleled among various collections of documents from the same period, and it is important not only for making up for documents that have since been lost or scattered, but also for showing the culmination of Edo paleographic studies.
