Colorado Plateau - Colorado Plateau

A large plateau that spreads between the Rocky Mountains and the Wasatch Mountains in the western United States. It spans four states: Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona. Its area is about 390,000 square kilometers. Its elevation ranges from 1,000 to 3,000 meters, and it is a complex of mountains and basins. The entire area is part of the Colorado River basin, forming canyons in various places. It is an arid region with a steppe and desert landscape. There is no particular industry other than extensive grazing, and there is a special Indian settlement for the Navajo and Hopi people. There are many scenic spots, including the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Monument Valley, Mesa Bird, known for its rock dwellings, Meteor Crater, and fossil forests. The geology is made up of rocks from the Precambrian to the Quaternary Period of the Cenozoic era, and a complex history of crustal movement can be seen in various places.

アメリカ合衆国西部のロッキー山脈とワサッチ山脈との間に広がる大高原。コロラド、ニュー・メキシコ、ユタ、アリゾナの4州にまたがる。面積約39万平方キロメートル。標高は1000～3000メートルで、山地と盆地が入り組んでいる。全域がコロラド川流域に属し、各所に峡谷をつくっている。乾燥地域に属し、ステップと砂漠の景観を示す。大放牧が行われる以外に産業らしいものはとくになく、ナバホ人とホピ人のインディアン特別居住区がある。景勝地は数多く、グランド・キャニオンをはじめ、ブライス・キャニオン、ザイオン、モニュメント・バリー、岩窟(がんくつ)住居で知られるメサ・バード、ミテオ・クレーター（大隕石孔）、化石林などがある。地質は先カンブリア時代から新生代第四紀までの岩石からなり、複雑な地殻変動の歴史が各地でみられる。
