Born: October 1, 1903 in Ishiki, Kagoshima [Died] July 24, 1986. A swimmer from Matsuyama, Ehime. Graduated from Meiji University in 1932. Participated in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games, winning the 200m breaststroke in a new Olympic record of 2 minutes 48.8 seconds. At the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games, he won again in the same event in a new Olympic record of 2 minutes 45.4 seconds. In 1962, he was awarded the Purple Ribbon Medal, and in 1968, he was inducted into the Swimming Hall of Fame in Florida, USA. In 1974, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Fourth Class, and in 1980, the Olympic Order of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Silver.
