A samurai family of the early modern period. In the mid-16th century, during the time of Ieshige, they served Tokugawa Hirotada. Ieshige's grandson Naotsugu served as one of Ieyasu's magistrates, and later became a retainer to Ieyasu's tenth son, Yorinobu, and in 1619 (Genwa 5), became the lord of Kii Tanabe Castle with 38,000 koku of rice. From then on, the family ruled over 16 generations until the end of the Edo period, and became a baron after the Meiji Restoration. The Ando clan, which began with Naotsugu's younger brother Shigenobu, the lord of Iwakidaira Domain, participated in the Shogunate government as hereditary daimyo and their territory was transferred many times, but in 1756 (Horeki 6), they were transferred from Mino Kano to Iwakidaira with 50,000 koku of rice, and continued to rule over the end of the Edo period.
