〘noun〙 (colony)① A group of organisms of the same species or several species. Representative examples of colonies include colonies centered around the nests of animals such as ants and bees, and colonies found in birds and mammals during the breeding season or migration. In the narrow sense, it refers to a colony or a colony of bacteria that grows on a solid medium. A colony.
