Rum Rebellion (English spelling)

…5th Governor of the British colony of New South Wales (now Australia) (1810-21). He dealt with the aftermath of the 1808 Rum Rebellion, which was launched by Governor Bligh, famous for the Mutiny on the Bounty. (At the time, all distilled alcohol was called rum, and rum even served as currency, but the colonial government tried to crack down on the smuggling of rum.) He consistently favored former exiles (emancipists) and appointed them to various aspects of colonial administration, which led to the beginning of the conflict between emancipists and exclusionists.
