A European decorative motif and design. Translated as "horn of plenty," it is generally depicted as a horn filled with flowers and fruit. It symbolizes wealth and well-being, and is also possessed by the goddesses and river gods of "good fortune," "victory," and "peace." The cornucopia originates from an episode in Greek mythology. Zeus, the supreme god, spent his childhood on Mount Ida in Crete, where a horned she-goat named Almathea nourished him with its rich milk. One day, while playing with Almathea, Zeus lost one of the horns, but later worshipped the she-goat in the constellation Capricorn, and bestowed the remaining horn with the mystical power to produce grain, golden garlands, fruit, and jewels, and presented it to the nymphs of Mount Ida.
