Soviet playwright. Born in Ukraine, he worked on the railway from the age of 14. He later graduated from Kiev Pedagogical University. His representative works include The Fall of the Fleet (1933), Plato and Krechet (1934), Truth (1937, written in response to a government call for a play featuring Lenin to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the October Revolution), The Front (1942), Why Did the Stars Smile? (1957), and others. He wrote many works with easy-to-understand plots that celebrated patriotism, national consciousness, and the optimism of the people, and was a very popular writer for a time.

ソ連邦の劇作家。ウクライナに生まれ，14歳から鉄道で働くという経歴の持主。後にキエフ教育大学を卒業している。代表作に《艦隊の滅亡》(1933)，《プラトン･クレチェト》(1934)，《真実》(1937。十月革命20周年を記念してレーニンの登場する戯曲を書くようにという政府の呼びかけにこたえた作品)，《戦線》(1942)，《なぜ星はほほ笑んだか》(1957)その他がある。わかりやすい筋書で愛国心，民族意識，民衆の楽天性などを謳歌した作品が多く，一時たいへんな流行作家であった。
