Imperial Villa - Goyoutei

The Imperial Villas are located in three places: Hayama, Nasu, and Susaki, and are Imperial property. The Hayama Imperial Villa is located on the coast of Hayama Town, Kanagawa Prefecture, and was built in 1894 (Meiji 27) for Empress Eisho's recreational purposes. It has an attached villa, and Emperor Taisho died here from illness. The Nasu Imperial Villa is a mountain villa in Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture, and was built in 1926 (Taisho 15). The Susaki Imperial Villa is located on the coast of Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was completed in 1971 following the abolition of the Numazu Imperial Villa in 1969 (Showa 44). In addition, there were the Nikko Imperial Villa and Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, and the Ikaho Imperial Villa in Ikaho, Gunma Prefecture, but these were given to the relevant prefectures when the Imperial property was reorganized after World War II. The Tokiwamatsu Imperial Villa in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, became the temporary residence of the Crown Prince after the war, and later became the residence of Prince Hitachi.
