Komsomolets Island (English spelling)

Japanese: コムソモレツ[島]（英語表記）Ostrov Komsomolets

It is the northernmost island of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic Ocean in the northern part of the Russian Federation, and the third largest island in the archipelago. It has an area of 9,006 km2, with the highest point at 780 m above sea level. Two-thirds of the island is covered by glaciers, and the rest of the lowlands are bare land or tundra. It was discovered in 1913 by the Russian BA Birykitsky Expedition, and named by the GA Ushakov Expedition in 1932. [Watanabe Kazuo]
