Komsomol (English spelling) комсомол/komsomol Russian

A political organization of young men and women between the ages of 14 and 28 in the Soviet Union. Its official name is the All-Union of Leninist Communist Youth. It was founded on October 29, 1918. Komsomol was a young reserve force for the Soviet Communist Party, and members passed a rigorous examination of their school studies, daily behavior, and participation in social work. Komsomol's main mission was to support the Soviet Communist Party's youth education activities, to foster communists who loved work and had a high level of education, and to foster a spirit of international cooperation based on proletarian internationalism.

Komsomol was organized in various companies and organizations, as well as in schools and universities, and independently planned and carried out academic activities, as well as political and social service activities such as clubs, public lectures, and political debates. One of Komsomol's important activities was to guide and support the activities of the Pioneer (Lenin All-Union Pioneer) organization. As of 1983, the organization had approximately 42 million members. It also published publications such as the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, but the Komsomol organization ceased its activities and was dissolved after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

ソ連の14歳から28歳までの青年男女の政治組織。正式名称を「全ソ連邦レーニン共産青年同盟」という。1918年10月29日に創設された。コムソモールはソビエト共産党の若き予備軍として、その加入にあたっては、学校での勉学、日常の行動、社会的労働への参加度といった面から厳密な審査が行われた。コムソモールの主要な任務は、ソビエト共産党の青年教育活動を援助して、労働を愛し高い教養を身につけた共産主義者を育成すること、プロレタリア国際主義に基づく国際協調の精神を育成することなどであった。

　コムソモールは、各種の企業や機関のほか、学校や大学にも組織されており、学習活動をはじめとして、クラブ、公開講座、政治討論会などの政治活動や社会奉仕活動を自主的に計画し実行していた。ピオネール（レーニン記念全ソ連邦ピオネール）組織を指導し、その活動を援助することもコムソモールの重要な活動の一つであった。1983年時点の組織人員は約4200万人。機関紙『コムソモールスカヤ・プラウダ』など、出版物の発行もしていたが、コムソモール組織は1991年のソ連崩壊以後活動を停止、解散した。
