Komsomolsk
Its official name is Komsomol'sk-na-Amure. It is an industrial city on the left bank of the lower Amur River in Eastern Siberia, Russia. It is a river port city about 356 km downstream from Khabarovsk. Industries include metallurgy, machinery, and lumbering. It was founded in 1932 by Komsomol members who came from all over the country. It is the eastern starting point of the BAM Railway, also known as the second Trans-Siberian Railway, which began operation in 1990. It has a population of 270,395 (2009).
