Living God - Arahitogami

It means a god in human form. In the section on Emperor Keiko in the Nihon Shoki, it is said that Yamato Takeru no Mikoto said, "I am the son of a living god." A synonym of Akitsumikami. Usually it refers to the emperor, but it can also be used for other things. Examples include Hitokotonushi no Kami of Mount Katsuragi in Nara Prefecture, who called himself a living god, and Sumiyoshi no Kami, who was called Arahitogami.

人の姿をした神の意。『日本書紀』の景行(けいこう)天皇の条には、日本武尊(やまとたけるのみこと)が「吾是現人神之子也」といわれたとある。明御神(あきつみかみ)の類語。普通、天皇をさすが、天皇以外に用いられることもある。自ら現人神であると名のった奈良県葛城(かつらぎ)山の一言主神(ひとことぬしのかみ)や、住吉(すみよし)神を荒人神(あらひとがみ)とよんだ例などがある。
