A city in the south of Bali, Indonesia. Capital of Bali Province. Population 488,200 (2001 estimate), 938,188 (2018 estimate). Located in the center of the southern plains of the island, it is the center of tourism in Bali, with Negra Rai International Airport located 15 km south of the city. Denpasar means "north of the market," and the market in the center of the city is a tourist attraction. It is a city that preserves Balinese traditional arts, and stone statues of Hindu guardian deities stand at intersections of major streets. There are also ruins of the old royal castle, the Bali Museum, and the Academy of Fine Arts.

インドネシア、バリ島南部の都市。バリ州の州都。人口48万8200(2001推計)、93万8188(2018推計)。同島南部平野の中央部に位置し、バリ島観光の中心で、市の南方15キロメートルにはヌグラ・ライ国際空港がある。デンパサルとは「市場の北」の意味で、市の中心にある市場は観光名所となっている。バリ島本来の伝統芸術を残す都市で、主要街路の交差点などにはヒンドゥー教の守護神の石像が立つ。旧王城の遺跡、バリ博物館、芸術学院もある。
