A musical term and instrument name. (1) A technique for playing stringed instruments such as the violin, cello, guitar, and harp. It is also called harmonics. By lightly touching the string at 1/2 or 1/3 of the string length, the entire string vibrates and produces overtones. It produces a soft, clear sound and produces a special timbre effect. In addition to playing with open strings, there is a more technical technique of changing the string length, and it is often used in solo parts in solo pieces and concertos. The name comes from the similarity of the tone to the instrument in (2). (2) A reedless, vertically blown flute that was popular in England and France in the 17th to 19th centuries. It was invented in the late 16th century and has four finger holes on the front and two on the back. Its range is roughly the same as that of the piccolo, and later a model with a key was created. → Related item Violin Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
