Daughter Dojoji - Daughter Dojoji
Kabuki dance piece. Nagauta. Original title: "Kyokago Musume Dojoji." First performed by Nakamura Tomijuro I as the third piece in the Edo Nakamuraza production of "Otoko Date Hatsukai Soga" in March 1753. Lyrics by Fujimoto Tobun, music by Kineya Yasaburo I, and supplementary music by Kineya Sakujuro. This is a representative work of the Dojoji genre, based on the Noh play "Dojoji" based on the legend of Anchin and Kiyohime of Dojoji Temple in Kishu. It is a new work based on Segawa Kikunojo I's "Hyakuchidori Musume Dojoji," with the addition of a new ball song and a passage about mountains, borrowing the structure from the Noh play and changing it into a Kabuki-style piece. It starts with a michiyuki, followed by a noh-style dance of random rhythm and rapid rhythm, followed by a nakahira dance, a hand dance in which the performers turn into virgin girls, a ball song, a flower hat dance, followed by a kudoki with hand towels for the eyes, a kakko (a traditional Japanese drum) dance, a hand dance by town girls, and a bell drum dance, followed by a bell-entering dance. Sometimes a push-back is added afterwards.
