Year of birth: unknown. Spanish Dominican priest. Born in Consuegra, Toledo province. Entered the Dominican Order in Ocaña. While working as a teacher at the Monastery of St. Thomas in Avila, he aspired to evangelize the East, and traveled to the Philippines in 1588, where he learned Chinese and compiled a Chinese catechism. In April 1592 (Bunroku 1), Toyotomi Hideyoshi dispatched Harada Magoshichiro to the Philippines to encourage tribute, and at the request of the governor of the Philippines, Pérez Dasmariñas, he landed in Satsuma with a letter in hand in June of the same year and met with Hideyoshi in Nagoya, Hizen (Chinzei-cho, Higashimatsuura-gun, Saga Prefecture). スペイン人ドミニコ会士。トレド県コンスエグラ生まれ。オカニャでドミニコ会に入る。アビラの聖トマス修道院で教師をしていたとき,東洋布教を志し,1588年フィリピンに渡り,中国語を学び,中国語の公教要理を編纂した。文禄1(1592)年4月豊臣秀吉が原田孫七郎をフィリピンに派遣し入貢を促したので,同地の総督ペレス・ダスマリニャスの要請により,書状を携えて同年6月薩摩に上陸,肥前名護屋(佐賀県東松浦郡鎮西町)で秀吉に謁した。帰任途中台湾沖で遭難し,島民により殺害された。<参考文献>C.ニエト著,久富紀子訳『ドミニコ会の愛と受難』,D.Aduarte 《Historia de la Provincia del Santo Rosario de la Orden de Predicadores en Filipinas,Japo´n y China》Ⅰ
