Furen Cave - Furen Cave

Japanese: 風連鍾乳洞 - ふうれんしょうにゅうどう
Furen Cave - Furen Cave

A limestone cave located in Tomari, Notsu Town, Usuki City, southern Oita Prefecture. Discovered in April 1926 (Taisho 15), it was designated a national natural monument the following year in 1927 (Showa 2). Its designated name is Furen Cave. The old cave overlooks the valley and is equipped with lighting and other facilities. The cave is 420 meters long. It is well-maintained and almost completely preserved, with stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars and other limestone deposits that have grown well. It is divided into three areas: Kin Sekai (Golden World), Gin Sekai (Silver World) and Ryugu Castle (Dragon Palace), and the stalactites shine white because there is little clay. The new cave is located about 100 meters higher than the old cave.
