A female singer-songwriter. She is a quarter Japanese with an Italian grandmother, and her real name is Uemura Ai Carina. She was born on November 2, 1981 in Los Angeles, California, USA. She is signed to EMI Music Japan. She moved to Kagoshima at the age of three. She went to the US in 1996 and enrolled in the Los Angeles Performing Arts School. She became a member of the church choir (a gospel music choir). She returned to Japan in 2000 and made her debut with "Cry, just Cry" from BMG JAPAN Co., Ltd. In 2001, she released her first album "my name is AI". Her second album "ORIGINAL AI" in 2003 reached 15th place on the Oricon album chart, and "2004 AI" in 2004 reached 3rd place on the Oricon album chart, earning a gold disc in the same year. In 2005, she made her debut at the NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen with "Story," and as of October 2012, the album has sold a total of 300,000 copies. Since then, she has been chosen to sing theme songs for movies and TV dramas, released her first directorial work, "BLUE PACIFIC STORIES "TAKE ACTION," and collaborated with many other artists. In March 2013, she announced that she was marrying HIRO, the leader and vocalist of the music group "Kaikigesshoku."

女性シンガーソングライター。イタリア人の祖母をもつ日本人とのクォーターで、本名は植村 愛 Carina(うえむら あい カリーナ)。1981年11月2日、米国カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルス生まれ。株式会社EMIミュージック・ジャパン所属。3歳の時、鹿児島に移り住む。96年に渡米し、ロサンゼルスのパフォーミング・アーツ・スクールに入学。教会のクワイア(ゴスペル音楽の聖歌隊)のメンバーになる。2000年に日本へ帰国し、株式会社BMGJAPANより「Cry, just Cry」でデビュー。01年、ファーストアルバム「my name is AI」をリリース。03年のセカンドアルバム「ORIGINAL A.I.」はオリコン・アルバム・チャート15位に、04年の「2004 A.I.」はオリコン・アルバム・チャート3位を記録し同年のゴールドディスクを獲得した。05年、「Story」でNHK紅白歌合戦に初登場、同アルバムは、12年10月現在、累計30万枚を売り上げを果たす。以降、映画やドラマの主題歌への起用、初監督作品「BLUE PACIFIC STORIES『TAKE ACTION』」の公開、幾多のアーティストとのコラボレーションなど多彩な13年3月、音楽集団「カイキゲッショク」のリーダーでボーカルのHIROと結婚することを発表した。
