Japanese: コノマチョウ(木の間蝶) - コノマチョウ

A general term for insects belonging to the Melanitis genus of the Lepidoptera family Satyridae. They mainly live in the shade of trees. Twelve species are known from the African continent to southern Asia and New Guinea, and two species, M. phedima (illustration) and M. leda , are found in Japan. The Melanitis genus has a wingspan of 7 to 8.5 cm. They are found in the Himalayas, Southeast Asia and Japan, and in Japan they live in warm forests from Shizuoka Prefecture to southern Kyushu.

鱗翅目ジャノメチョウ科コノマチョウ属Melanitisに属する昆虫の総称。主として木陰に生活する。アフリカ大陸からアジア南部，ニューギニアにかけて12種が知られ，日本にはクロコノマチョウM.phedima（イラスト）とウスイロコノマチョウM.ledaの2種を産する。クロコノマチョウは開張7～8.5cm。ヒマラヤ，東南アジアから日本まで広がり，日本ではほぼ静岡県から南九州にわたって暖地の森林に生息する。
