One of the ancient document styles. It is also called Ichijijo, Myojijo, or Kakanjo. It is a document given as evidence when an Eboshi-oya (parent of a hat-wearing father) gives one character of his own given name (part of his given name) to name his child on the occasion of Genpuku (coming-of-age ceremony). It is not limited to parents and children wearing Eboshi hats, but was also used between lords and vassals to strengthen feudal lord-vassal relationships. It was especially popular during the Muromachi and Sengoku periods. It may be accompanied by a soejo (attached letter), but when it is written on a single sheet of paper, it usually consists of one character of the given name, the date, the sender (signature and seal), and the addressee.
