The name of a region and former province in central-western France. It stretches along the Loire, Cher, Indre, Bienne, and Creuse rivers, roughly matching the current Indre-et-Loire department, but also includes parts of Loir-et-Cher in the east and parts of Indre and Bienne in the south. The northern part of the right bank of the Loire is called the Gatine region, the eastern part of the left bank is called the Champaigne region, the western part is called the Richera region, and the southern part is called the Sainte-Maure hills.
