Alaca Hüyük (English spelling)

Japanese: アラジャ･ヒュユク（英語表記）Alaca Hüyük

This is a site in the central north of the Anatolian Plateau in Turkey. It is a low tell located about 32 km northeast of Boğazköy. An investigation in 1835 revealed the presence of the Sphinx Gate, and as excavation progressed it became clear that it was the remains of a city from the New Hittite Kingdom. However, in 1935-39, Turkish archaeologists HZ Koşay and RO Arik discovered a unique culture belonging to the Early Bronze Age in the lower layers of the city ruins, which gave it a particularly important position in academic history.
