<br /> A scenic spot located in Saga and other areas of Ukyo Ward and Nakao Shitamachi and other areas of Arashiyama, Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. It spreads on both sides of the Togetsukyo Bridge over the Ooi River downstream of the Hozu River, northwest of Kyoto City. It has been a pleasure spot since the Heian period, and is dotted with temples such as Tenryu-ji Temple, Rinsen-ji Temple, Nison- in Temple, Jojakko-ji Temple, Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple, Horin-ji Temple, and Daihikaku Temple. The hills of Ogurayama, Kameyama, and Arashiyama, and the clear streams create a beautiful landscape. It was designated as a national historic site and place of scenic beauty in 1927 (Showa 2), and received additional designations the following year and in 1934 (Showa 9). During the Heian period, Arashiyama was known as a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves, and was visited by the imperial family and aristocrats, and mountain villas were built nearby. The area north of Togetsukyo Bridge is the former site of Danrinji Temple, which was run by Tachibana Kachiko, the Empress of Emperor Saga , and became Emperor Gosaga's Kameyama Palace. Tenryuji Temple was built on this site by Ashikaga Takauji to commemorate the soul of Emperor Godaigo. Rinsenji Temple is to the southeast of Tenryuji Temple, and Nonomiya Shrine is to the north. Many temples and historic sites are dotted around Sagano at the foot of Mt. Ogura on the east bank of the Oi River. Adashino, northeast of Mt. Ogura, is home to Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple, famous for its Sento Kuyo ceremony, and the old townscape is still preserved to this day, centered around the Toriimoto area on the approach to the temple. On the south side of Togetsukyo Bridge are Horin-ji Temple, which is famous for the Jusanmegi pilgrimage, and Daihikaku, and at the top of Mt. Arashiyama are the ruins of Arashiyama Castle. 京都府京都市の右京区嵯峨(さが)ほかと西京区嵐山中尾下町ほかにある景勝地。京都市の西北、保津川下流の大堰(おおい)川にかかる渡月橋両岸に広がる。平安時代以来の遊楽地で、天龍寺、臨川寺、二尊院、常寂光寺、化野(あだしの)念仏寺、法輪寺、大悲閣などの寺院が点在する。小倉山、亀山、嵐山などの丘陵と清流がつくる景観は美しい。1927年(昭和2)に国の史跡および名勝に指定され、翌年と1934年(昭和9)に追加指定を受けた。嵐山は平安時代には紅葉の名所として知られ、皇族、貴族が訪れ、付近には山荘なども営まれていた。渡月橋の北側一帯は、嵯峨天皇の皇后・橘嘉智子(たちばなのかちこ)が営んだ檀林寺の跡地で、後嵯峨天皇の亀山殿となり、この地に、足利尊氏が後醍醐(ごだいご)天皇の菩提を弔うために建立したのが天龍寺。天龍寺の東南には臨川寺、北には野宮神社があり、大堰川東岸の小倉山麓の嵯峨野にも多くの寺院や旧跡が点在する。小倉山北東の化野には千灯供養で有名な化野念仏寺があり、参道の鳥居本(とりいもと)地区を中心に古い街並みを今に伝えている。渡月橋南側には、十三詣りの法輪寺や大悲閣があり、嵐山山頂には嵐山城跡などがある。京福電鉄嵐山本線ほか嵐山駅から徒歩すぐ。 出典 講談社国指定史跡ガイドについて 情報 |
