...Hanthawaddy was a dynasty of the Mon people in southern Burma (now Myanmar) (Lower Burma) that lasted from 1287 to 1539. Its founder, Warer (reigned 1287-96), was a traveling merchant from Dong Wun village. He served the king of Sukhothai in Thailand and was made captain of the royal guard. He then eloped with the princess and returned to his hometown.
