Self-defense - Goshinjutsu

Self-defense - Goshinjutsu

It is a technique for controlling an opponent's attack and protecting one's own safety. It is not a technique for actively inflicting harm on the opponent to protect oneself, but rather a passive technique for blocking or controlling the opponent's attack before it can occur. Judo's self-defense techniques include the "Kime no Kata" (forms of extreme fighting) that have been practiced since ancient times, the "Kodokan Self-Defense Techniques" that were newly created to take into account situations that may occur in everyday life, and the "Women's Judo Self-Defense Techniques" that were created especially for women, and these are practiced as kata (forms). The "Kime no Kata" are performed when sitting (Idori Hachipon) and when standing (Tachiai Junipon), and incorporate methods for controlling an opponent when he attacks with no hands, a short sword, or a long sword. "Kodokan Self-Defense" consists of 21 representative techniques of judo to protect oneself using throws, pins, chokes, joint locks, striking, thrusts and kicks, etc., for situations where one is grappled by an opponent, attacked from a distance by striking, thrusts or kicks, or attacked with a short sword, a stick or a gun. "Women's Judo Self-Defense" consists of basic movements to practice agile body movements, techniques for quickly disengaging the body from an opponent's attack, and techniques for responding to and controlling an opponent's attack.
