A general term for things served with sake. In the past, clothing and weapons were given as gifts with sake. After the mid-Edo period, with the development of banquet cuisine, food became the main focus, and the term generally referred to fish in order to balance with sake. It also refers to conversations and songs and dances that are entertained at a drinking party. 酒に添えるものの総称。古くは服飾品や武器などが引出物として酒に添えられた。江戸時代中期以後,宴会料理の発展に伴って食品が主となり,酒との釣合いから一般に魚類をさすようになった。また酒席の座興になる話題や歌舞のこともいう。
