Antifogging coated glass

Japanese: 防曇ガラス - ぼうどんがらす（英語表記）antifogging coated glass

When the glass is used under conditions that cause a temperature difference between both sides, or when the temperature changes suddenly, the glass often becomes cloudy, but this refers to glass that has been treated to prevent this. The most common method is to spray a mist of tin (Sn) solution onto the surface to create a thin film of tin oxide (SnO2 ₎ to give it electrical conductivity, and then heat it by passing an electric current through it. This method is used for rear window glass in automobiles. The same function can also be achieved by treating the surface to make it hydrophilic, but there are problems with durability, and so far this has not been established as a technology.

ガラスの両面に温度差を生ずるような使用条件のとき，あるいは使用温度が急激に変化したとき，しばしばガラスに曇りを生ずるが，これを防止する加工をしたガラスをいう。表面にスズSnの溶液を霧状にして吹き付け，酸化スズSnO₂の薄膜を生じさせることにより電気伝導性を賦与し，電流を通じて加熱する方法が一般的であり，自動車の後部窓ガラスに使用されている。また表面が親水性になるような処理をすることによっても同様の機能が実現できるが，耐久性などの問題があり，現在までのところ確立した技術になっていない。
