Kokonyorankou (draft of the Kokon Yorankou)

A similar book. Compiled by Yashiro Hirokata. 560 volumes. Compilation began in 1821 (Bunsei 4) by order of the shogunate, with a plan to have a total of 1000 volumes, and by 1842 (Tenpo 13) 560 volumes had been prepared, but after Hirokata's death, the compilation was halted. It was published from 1905 to 1907 (Meiji 38-40). The subjects are classified into 20 categories by meaning, such as gods, surnames, eras, and geography, and an overview is given on their origins and history, followed by citations from ancient documents and poems related to the main topic, and other names are given. The citations are abundant and detailed. It can be said to be the first full-scale similar book in Japan.

類書。屋代弘賢(やしろひろかた)編。560巻。1821年（文政4）に幕府の命によって全1000巻の予定で編纂(へんさん)を開始、1842年（天保13）までに560巻を調進したが、弘賢没後は編纂が中絶した。1905～1907年（明治38～40）にかけて刊行された。事項は神祇(じんぎ)・姓氏・時令・地理など20部門別に意義分類して、その起源や沿革などに関してまず総説を述べ、古文献の記述や本題にちなむ詩歌を引用し、別名などを示す。引用が豊富でしかも詳しい。日本初の本格的な類書といえよう。
