Mesitylene

1,3,5-trimethylbenzene. C ₉ H ₁₂ (120.19). Found in small amounts in coal tar. Synthetically, it is obtained by methylating or disproportionating xylene, or by dehydrating and condensing acetone with concentrated sulfuric acid. Liquid. Melting point -44.8 °C, boiling point 165 °C. Solvent content 0.8611. Solvent content 1.4968. Mixes with alcohols and ethers. Used as a solvent or as a synthetic raw material for dyes, pigments, medicines, etc. [CAS 108-67-8]
