The largest of these, Aepyornis maximus , had a head height of 3.3 m and an estimated weight of 450 kg, far larger than the modern ostrich (head height 2.4 m, weight 150 kg). In addition, an egg with a major axis of 33 cm, a minor axis of 24 cm, and a volume of 9 liters has been discovered, which is the size of seven ostrich eggs or 180 chicken eggs, making it the largest egg of any animal.
