Kogo's Song

Japanese: 小督の曲 - こごうのきょく
Kogo's Song
The title of a Yamada school koto piece. Composed by Yamada Kengyo. The lyrics first appeared in the 1809 (Bunka 6) edition of Azuma Koto Uta. It is one of the four great pieces composed by the founder of the school. The lyrics are said to have been written by Yokota Fukuro-o. Based on the story of Kogoku no Tsubone from Volume 6 of the Tale of the Heike, it describes the autumn atmosphere of Sagano and focuses on Minamoto no Nakakuni's search for Kogoku no Tsubone using the sound of the koto in Soufuren. The Nagauta Kimi no Niwa was composed based on this piece. [Kubota Toshiko]
