Japanese: 測色 - そくしょく（英語表記）colourimetry

Measuring the quantities used to express color. The content varies depending on the color system used to express the color. If you are trying to express a color in the Munsell color system, colorimetry involves determining the H (hue), V (value), and C (chroma) of that color. For example, the color of a dayflower flower would be identified as 6.5PB3.4/17.8. Of course, it is not possible to determine these values and symbols just by looking at the flower, so standard Munsell color charts are used, and the color chart closest to the flower's color is found by comparing them with the flower, and the HVC value is read off.

色を表示するのに用いられる諸量を測定すること。その内容はどのような表色系で色を表すかによって違ってくる。色をマンセル表色系で表そうとするなら，その色のH(ヒュー)，V(バリュー)，C(クロマ)を決定することが測色になる。例えばツユクサの花の色は6.5PB3.4/17.8などと同定することである。もちろんこのとき花を見ただけではこれらの数値や記号を決めることはできないので標準のマンセル色票を使い，それらを花と比べてみて花の色にいちばん近い色票を見つけ，そのHVCの値を読み取るのである。
