Several pedicels emerge from the leaf axils, each of which bears a single milky white flower. The fruit is oblong, 10 to 13 cm long, and hangs from the branch. It is divided into five chambers inside, containing 100 to 150 seeds wrapped in long hairs, which split when ripe to expose the fiber called kapok (also known as papyrus). ...
