A general term for the genus Plagiochila of the liverwort family Plagiochila. It is the largest genus of liverwort, with about 1,600 species recorded worldwide, many of which are regionally endemic. There are about 20 species in Japan. The leaves overlap like a tile, with serrated edges. The ventral leaves are vestigial. The perianth is flattened on both sides and has a wide mouth. Plagiochila ovalifolia Mitt. is commonly found throughout Japan, and grows in colonies on damp soil or rocks. The plant is green to greenish brown, with an obliquely ascending stem 2 to 5 cm long. 苔類のハネゴケ科ハネゴケ属Plagiochilaの総称。苔類の中で最大の属で,世界に約1600種が記録され,地域的な固有種が多い。日本には約20種ある。葉は瓦状に重なり,鋸歯縁をもつ。腹葉は痕跡的。花被は左右に扁平で,広い口をもつ。マルバハネゴケP.ovalifolia Mitt.は全国に普通に産し,陰湿な土上や岩上に群生する。植物体は緑色~緑褐色,茎は斜上し,長さ2~5cm。葉は卵形で,葉縁に多数の小さい鋸歯がある。
