International Competitiveness

Japanese: 国際競争力 - こくさいきょうそうりょく

The strength of competitiveness in international economic transactions. Under free trade, the stronger a country's international competitiveness is, the more its exports will increase. International competitiveness can be broadly divided into price competitiveness and non-price competitiveness. The former is the ability to supply exports at a lower price, and its indicator is the relative export price (the country's export price ÷ world export price of industrial goods). Increased productivity due to technological progress and abundant, inexpensive human and material resources lead to strong price competitiveness. The latter refers to competitiveness attributable to the unique characteristics of a product, such as its design, quality, performance, brand, reliability, suitability for the market, and the inability to produce it in other countries due to differences in advanced technology and resources.

国際経済取引における競争力の強さのこと。自由貿易のもとでは国際競争力が強いほど当該国の輸出は増加する。国際競争力は，価格競争力と非価格競争力に大別される。前者はより低い価格で輸出品を供給する能力であり，輸出相対比価 (当該国の輸出価格÷世界工業品輸出価格) がその指標となる。技術進歩による生産性上昇や豊富で安価な人的・物的資源があれば価格競争力の強さにつながる。後者は製品のデザイン，品質，性能，ブランド，信頼性，市場への適合度，高度の技術水準や資源の差により他国ではつくれない場合など製品の特殊性に帰因する競争力をさす。
