Dissociative disorder

In recent years, there have been repeated attempts to eliminate the term "hysteria" in order to eliminate the traditional prejudices and ambiguity of the concept. For example, in the third edition of the American Psychiatric Association's "Mental Disorders Manual," the functional (non-organic) physical symptoms of hysteria are incorporated into "conversion disorder," the mental symptoms of hysteria are incorporated into "dissociative disorder," and the hysterical personality is renamed "histrionic personality."

The main characteristic of hysteria is the conversion of psychic conflict into noticeable physical symptoms such as motor and perceptual disorders.
