A former town in Ayauta County, central Kagawa Prefecture. Towns and villages have developed along the Kotohira Highway (National Route 32) between Takamatsu and Kotohira, and the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railway runs through the main city area. In addition to rice and wheat farming using reservoir irrigation, vegetable, peach and flower cultivation are also thriving.
