A former town in Ayauta County, central Kagawa Prefecture. Towns and villages have developed along the Kotohira Highway (National Route 32) between Takamatsu and Kotohira, and the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railway runs through the main city area. In addition to rice and wheat farming using reservoir irrigation, vegetable, peach and flower cultivation are also thriving. 香川県中部，綾歌郡の旧町。高松〜琴平の琴平街道（国道32号線）沿いに街村が発達，主要市街地を高松琴平電鉄が通じる。溜池灌漑(ためいけかんがい)による米麦作のほか野菜，モモ，花卉(かき)栽培が盛ん。2005年３月綾歌郡飯山町と丸亀市へ編入。27.15km2。１万1870人（2003）。
