...Enzymes that break down peptide chains from the inside are called endopeptidases, those that break down peptide chains from the amino end are called aminopeptidases, those that break down peptide chains from the carboxyl end are called carboxypeptidases, and those that break down peptides into dipeptides are called dipeptidases. In the narrow sense, proteinases belong to endopeptidases. Protease enzymes have various functions in the body, but they can be broadly divided into the following three types:
