Also known as VSB. A type of amplitude modulation in which most of one sideband and a portion of the other sideband are transmitted in the form shown in the figure. On the transmitting side, the amplitude-modulated double-sideband signal f c ± f v is given the cutoff characteristic shown in the figure. This characteristic is attenuated by 6 dB at the carrier frequency f c and is point-symmetric on both sides. On the receiving side, the residual sideband - f v is folded back to the f v side to obtain a flat demodulated output. Double-sideband modulation requires a required bandwidth that is twice the bandwidth of the modulated signal, resulting in poor transmission efficiency. VSBともいう。振幅変調の一種で,一方の側波帯の大部分ともう一方の側波帯の一部分を図のような形で伝送する方式。送信側では,振幅変調された両側波帯の信号fc±fvに,図の形の遮断特性が与えられる。この特性は,搬送波周波数fcで6dB減衰し,その両側で点対称となる形である。受信側では,残留側波帯-fvをfv側に折り返して平たんな復調出力を得る。両側波帯変調は,所要帯域幅が変調信号帯域幅の2倍となり,伝送効率が悪い。
