Enugu - Enugu (English spelling)

Enugu is the capital of Enugu State in eastern Nigeria, West Africa. It has a population of 308,200 (1995). In 1909, coal mines were discovered in Udi, a suburb of the town, and in 1916, a railway line was opened from the port city of Port Harcourt, which led to the town's prosperity. There is a branch campus of the University of Nigeria in Enugu. It is the political center of eastern Nigeria, and is also a major industrial city, with furniture manufacturing factories, automobile assembly plants, chemical fiber factories, steel mills, and more.

西アフリカ、ナイジェリア東部、エヌグ州の州都。人口30万8200（1995）。1909年町の郊外のウディに炭鉱が発見され、また16年に港市ポート・ハーコートから鉄道が開通し栄えた。ナイジェリア大学の分校がある。東部ナイジェリアの政治的中心地であり、また家具製造工場、自動車組立て工場、化学繊維工場、製鋼所などがあり、一大工業都市でもある。
